Torridon to the Isle of Skye and the Fairy Pools

Torridon to the Isle of Skye and the Fairy Pools - 10th July.

We left Torridon and decided to take the coastal route and the over the Bealach na Ba pass a twisting mountain pass on the Applecross Peninsula. A nice drive along the cost then a single-track road that rises over 2,000 feet at its highest point and is famous for being one of the most scenic drives in the world, as well as one of the most dangerous due to its tight hairpin bends. We negotiated the single lane and winding road with out too many close calls. We made it to Broadford and booked into our hostel mid afternoon it was the Skye Basecamp Hostel that used to be an old persons home. Another nice hostel with a friendly owner who was very helpful.

We still had some time left so we decided to take a drive to the Fairy Pools a local walking track and tourist spot. It started to rain quite heavily but we decided to go anyway. It was also the first time we had encountered the midges. Midges are tiny flying insects with a wingspan of only 2-3mm. There are over 35 different species of biting midge in Scotland. The midges land and bite on any exposed skin. Matt was very brave wearing shorts and got a "hurry up" form the midges. There were lots of people at the Fairy Pools even in the rain, a well maintained walk and a good outing but nothing too special.
