Dunfermline - Edinburgh - Penrith - Sheffield

Dunfermline - Edinburgh - Penrith - Sheffield 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th July

We left Stirling and headed down to Edinburgh to drop Matt off. That done, we headed up to Dunfermline, where we stayed at an Airbnb with a couple, David and Joyce, and their four Irish red setters. We had another look around Townhill and Dunfermline and then met up with Eilidh for dinner both nights we were there. She was once again great company, and having another look around the area was good.

On Saturday we headed south and had a stop off at Hadrian's Wall, a great "point of interest". All you ever wanted to know Info here Then we drove on to an abnb in a small town called Pellethill near Penrith. It was an interesting little space. We stayed in a small room with a loft. (see photo) Maree had to sleep with her head out the open end, a bit claustrophobic.

In the morning, we set off and visited the Castlerigg stone circle before making a loop of the Lake District. Had a good drive around the area and up a narrow winding road to a lookout. We stopped and tried to do a walk, but the trail was flooded. Not much luck even had to pay five pounds for the parking (bugger). We then headed down to our accommodation in Netheredge, Sheffield, through the Peak District National Park on what they call Snake Road.

One of our better photos of Edinburgh Castle

Matt sorting out his gear for the drop off in front of the Stirling Youth Hostel.
It used to be the Erskine Mary-kirk Church and is still on the church grounds.

A short visit to Townhill again, Jim's dads home town, and lunch by the loch
which is now the National waterski center.

Another photo of Edinburgh Castle.

The weather was not so good again on the way to the Stone Circles.

Oh yes, and did we say it had been raining. We tried to walk along this track, but most of it was underwater, so we gave up.

Our journey over the days above.
