Ben Nevis

Ben Nevis - Sun 2nd July

Today we took a punt on climbing Ben Nevis as the weather seemed to take a break from raining and we had a bit of a window of fine weather in the afternoon- maybe? We drove from Oban to the Ben Nevis Information Centre in the River Nevis Valley. The information says a six hours return walk and it was all of that, and we needed lots of stops for breathers. Jim and Matt made it to the top into the clouds and Maree made it three quarters of the way up, and headed back as it was starting to rain and get very cloudy on the tops.  The track was very well made with mainly steps of rock and sandy paths though mainly steps all the way up - height 1345 metres. Doesn't sound a lot but it is when its all steps.  Great views of course and a busy track with a running race happening up the mountain that day. After the walk we drove on to Fort Augustus and a stay in another hostel. Matt shouted Chinese for tea.

Our best look at Ben Nevis that day.

The summit 1345 metres can't see much and a bit cold!
