Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires 9th to 13th April

We travelled from Cordoba to Buenos Aires by bus. Up early and taxi to the bus terminal all going well had a bit of a drama with the luggage guy next to the bus but other than that all good.

Had a good bus ride, nice country that looked very productive with many cropping and service towns along the way. The good thing about travelling by bus is you get to see the countryside and all of the smaller towns. About a 10 hour bus ride arrived just on dark and Ubered to our abnb. Nice apartment on 8th floor overlooking a park. Part of the park was for dog exercise so it got pretty noisy when it was dog exercising time in the park.

Spent the next day with Jack & Bellan Weaver and their son Basion, driving to Jack's Argentinian family's place and enjoyed a traditional asado or BBq. We really enjoyed the day and was great to see a familiar face.

We used a hop on hoop off bus to look around the city for two days as everything is quite spread out and this gives you a broad look at all the attractions: La Boca neighbourhood – very colourful buildings and Tango dancers everywhere wanting to give Jim a twirl!  We went to a Tango show which told how the tango evolved over time.

At the National Art Gallery where I saw some Frida Kahlo originals, and this was quite a well put together gallery that we probably enjoyed more than the contemporary gallery we also visited. We strolled around an ecological park – a bit rough in the upkeep though they seemed to have plenty of staff loitering around. The Plaza de Mayo, also the location of the  Pink Palace where Eva Peron, Argentinas first lady  made her impassioned speech to the people.  There are also lots of beautiful buildings very much like the streets you will see in Paris, some were quite rough and others well maintained. There are also some beautiful antique /collectable shops here that were very interesting. Graffiti and rubbish in some areas is a bit sad but seems common in all South American towns and cities. We also passed a protest which are quite regular events in the city and cause  a fair bit of traffic chaos.  We asked the driver why? – her reply was people wanting more money for doing nothing! End of conversation.

We started our Intrepid in Buenos Aires and were the only 2 guests on the trip which caters up to 15.  So lucky for us we had our tour Guide Nathaly for 12 days – private tour! She was from Reo De Janiero.
