Achmelvich to Torridon
Achmelvich to Torridon 9th July
We left the Achmelvich Youth Hostel and drove through and picked up Matt. The day wasn't the best, again a bit rainy and misty. Along the way we saw some more red deer on the hill side.
We stoped at the Knockan Crag National Nature Reserve and spent an hour or so walking the trails and reading the information on display. The crag is a globally important geological site and was formed by the Moine Thrust, the force of two continents crashing together millions of years ago. In the 19th century, with they discovered that a slice of old rock sits on top of much younger ones something that was quite controversial at the time. Well worth a stop and the time to explore.
A bit further along the road we stoped at the Corrieshalloch Gorge National Nature Reserve. It had a series of walks and waterfalls with views of a mile-long canyon and a suspension bridge. Lots of people here with a line up to cross the bridge.
The drive also went along the coast in places and had many areas that were just single lane.
We got to Torridon a very scenic little village and the weather cleared up and we were able to go for a walk before dinner. Along the walk we came across a little deer park and museum then walked along the coast and back through the village.
